Nicknamed the Mile High City, Denver, Colorado, sits precisely one mile above sea level. With stunning views of the Rocky Mountains, Denver is the perfect destination for a quick getaway. Denver is home to a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities in the South Platte River Valley.

Denver Botanic Gardens

Regardless of the season, you’re visiting, and the Botanic Gardens are always gorgeous. The gardens are responsible for protecting natural habitats and saving species, and as you stroll along the pathways, you can view the ongoing conservation efforts. The gardens are home to lily pads, a tropical biosphere, and a Japanese garden. Whether you bring a picnic or grab something to eat at one of the restaurants, the botanic gardens are a must-stop during any Denver visit.

Mount Evans

Known as Colorado’s 12th highest peak, Mount Evans stands at an elevation of 14,271ft. Mount Evans dominates along the Great Plains with Pikes Peak, Longs Peak, and Mount Bierstadt. There are two options when it comes to getting to the top of the mountain. You can drive and pass through the various climate zones, or you can hike. It takes approximately 3-4 hours to hike from the lake up to the peak. But remember, due to Colorado’s crazy early snow, the peak could be closed depending on the time of year you go.

Larimer Square 

Larimer Square is one of Denver’s most historic areas, and its history extends back to the 19th century. The square was home to Denver’s first bank, dry goods store, bookstore, theater, and post office! While some old buildings remain, the restaurants and shops that have opened up in the square should be checked out!

Downtown Aquarium 

With more than a million gallons of water and home to over 500 species, the Downtown Aquarium is the perfect place for the kids to explore. This is the ideal place to learn about sea life from an interactive Stingray Reef touch tank to a Dive Lounge and Aquarium Restaurant while having fun.

Union Station

Opened in 1881, Union Station isn’t just for transportation. Home to a hotel, restaurants, shopping, and a train hall, this is the perfect location to admire the stunning architecture and maybe even grab an ice cream cone!
